The altar guild is responsible for preparing the church for worship services. Duties include polishing the silver and brass; washing and ironing linens; baking communion bread; ordering candles, wine, wafers and incense; setting out the appropriate vessels for every service; managing the hymn board; and maintaining the prayer corner on the north wall of the chancel. These routine acts help all of us, visitors and members alike, feel welcome and ready to participate in corporate worship.
Altar guild members work in teams. Team A does the set up for the 8 am Sunday service, and usually completes that work on Saturday. Team B clears after the 8 am service and sets up for the later Sunday service, working in between the services and still having enough time to participate in choir or adult Sunday classes, if desired. Team C clears after the later service, cleanses and stores all items, and is responsible for locking the church and leaving the nave tidied and ready for the next function. There is a place for newcomers on any of these teams! Please contact Alison Ricker if you would like to serve as member of this vital group.
